LOADING INSTRUCTIONS FOR PARADE FLOATS

Hi.

I’m Thomas Walker, Advisory Board member and Block Coordinator for the African American Day Parade. At this time I would like to thank all New and Returning participants entering Floats in this year’s 55TH Annual African American Day Parade.

We ask Float Admins or designated person(s) to arrive at 9 am in order to load and prepare their floats by 10:30 am. Loading consists of DJ set up, generator, chairs, decorations, and any additional equipment you are bringing. At 10:30am all vehicles used for delivering equipment and supplies must be out of the staging area (111st to 115st between Malcolm X Blvd to Frederick Douglas Blvd). No Exceptions. This includes ALL vehicles, even those that are riding with participants. Your vehicle MUST arrive at 9am.

Here are a few tips to float prep:

  1. Arrive early for easier access to loading your float.

  2. Unload all equipment and supplies quickly. Then exit the staging area with loading vehicle(s). It’s  advised to find parking near the end of the parade route for quicker float unloading. *All Floats will disembark on Adam Clayton Powell Jr Blvd between 138th & 142nd Streets end of parade route.

  3. Bring a person(s) to stay with your float while securing vehicle parking at the end of the parade route. This person can start arranging your float in your absence.

  4. Bring extra chairs for your float if needed.

  5. Bring a generator as availability is very limited.

  6. Ensure all fixtures and seating are secured to proactively eliminate any possible mishaps.

  7. Make sure your Message, Music and Giveaways are appropriate and family/kid friendly.

  8. Attending 1 Zoom meeting is imperative all meeting information is located on www.africanamericandayparade/participate

Note: This parade belongs to all of us. It’s our job to make it Memorable.

Thank You and I’ll see you at the Parade.
